ABOUT:

Luke David Sims is an award-winning filmmaker: Writer, Director, and Cinematographer based in the South West of the UK. Luke's work is recognised for its "strong visual style and ability to capture the human experience with nuanced, emotional storytelling."

In 2014 Luke became the first member of his family to study at university at the age of 22. Luke graduated from the Arts University Plymouth with a First-Class BA in Film (2017). He graduated with an average 1st Year Grade of 71.9%, 2nd Year Grade of 74.3% and 3rd Year Grade of 78% - winning the universities Prize Scheme Award for Academic Excellence.

Whilst at university; Luke acted as a Student Representative, to help support and give a voice to his peers. Around his studies -  he worked as a Camera Operator and Producer for My Sport Live. There, he helped them to launch into the UK market: covering the Paralympic Archery & two consecutive British Weightlifting Championships.

After graduating Luke worked as an in-house Video Producer at an international Digital Learning Agency. ​In this role, Luke led the Video Department within the Motion Team. There, he was responsible for all aspects of the video production process - from ideation and scripting to shooting, editing, and delivery. Also in this role, he supported the Video Editors within his team, mentored a Marketing Graduate during their placement, and acted as an Employee Representative.
 

Around that position, he also worked as a non-profit Filmmaker/Videographer on projects for Coaching for Hope, JDRF UK, and Tribe Magazine.

Luke has worked as a Filmmaker/Video Producer on projects for Sony Music, Google, AstraZeneca, Meta, PaypalTesco, MercedesTetraPak, Paypal, Newlook, AXA and more.

Luke’s academic work was screened at various Festivals/Programmes including Encounters Short Film Festival (2016), Plymouth Film Festival (2016), Port Elliot Festival (2016), Hong Kong Columbus (2016), La Semaine du Film Britannique (2016), NAHEMI Programme (2016), Aesthica Film Festival (2017). And was Cinematographer for ‘Bird’ - the winner of the Royal Television Society Regional Student Award (2018)

More recently, Luke has been cultivating a small team of Filmmakers and Actors to produce self-funded short films - their work on ‘10 Times 10’ (2019), ‘Solitary Guide’ (2021), ‘Handmade’ (2022) and ‘Taken Back’ (2023) were all shortlisted, and screened at SCI-FI-LONDON film festival - with ‘Handmade’ receiving the 3rd Place Award. ‘Handmade’ also received Honourable Mention (after being nominated for Best UK Short) at Love Story Film Festival (2023). Their most recent short ‘Are We Friends?’ (2023) - has now become an official selection at the New Renaissance Film Festival (2023) and a WISFFF (2023) Round 1 Qualifier.
